Tiers With Peers iMessage extension · Last updated 2026-09-21 · Effective 2026-04-19

Summary

Tiers With Peers stores only what you create in the app — tier lists, item names, and any photos you pick — so the people in your iMessage group can see and edit them. We don't ask for an account, we don't track you, we don't show ads. The app does send crash and error reports to one diagnostics service (Sentry), described below. A free tier list is deleted about 30 days after it was last shared; tier lists saved by users with the premium upgrade are retained until the user requests deletion.

Who we are

Tiers With Peers is an iMessage extension published by Peter Gardiner, an individual developer. Contact: petergardiner25@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

There are five categories. The first four are information you actively enter or choose; the fifth is sent automatically when something goes wrong.

1. Content you create, stored in the cloud. When you send a tier list into a group chat, the following is uploaded to Firebase (Google Cloud) so other people in the chat can load it when they tap the message:

2. An anonymous identifier. The app signs you in to Firebase anonymously. This produces a random opaque user ID that has no link to your Apple ID, name, email, or phone number. It exists only to satisfy Firebase's security rules (so only authenticated clients can read and write tier list data).

3. Local data on your device. The app stores a few preferences in the iOS app-group UserDefaults: your chosen display name, a draft of the tier list you're currently editing, a list of your recent tier lists, and a premium-entitlement flag. When you change a list that was already shared and have not shared the change yet, the app also keeps a copy of those changes, including any photos you added, in its own storage on your device. It deletes that copy when you share the changes, or after 30 days. For a Solo Rank list you have not locked in yet, the app keeps where you have put each item, so you can finish later. It deletes that when you lock in, or after 30 days. This data stays on your device and is not uploaded.

4. Reports you file about content. If you report a tier list or an item as objectionable, we store the report so we can act on it: the document ID of the list, the ID of the item if you reported one item, the reason you picked from the fixed list, the time, and the same 8-character pseudonymous participant ID described above. The report does not copy the content you are reporting or say who you are beyond that ID, and reports are write-only from the app — no user of the app can read them back.

5. Crash and diagnostic reports. The app sends crashes and handled errors to one third-party diagnostics service so we can find and fix them:

These reports carry identifiers and counts, not content — for example the document ID of the list involved, how many items it had, how many people are in the chat, the 8-character pseudonymous participant ID, and the SDK-generated installation identifier named above. They do not contain your list titles, your item names, your photos, or the display name you set. Sentry is configured with its "default personally identifiable information" collection turned off, which means we do not send it your IP address.

Photos access

When you tap "Add photo" we present the system photo picker, which lets you grant access to specific images only. Just those images are uploaded, compressed to thumbnails. We do not read your photo library.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, or any advertising / tracking identifiers. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no product-analytics SDKs, and nothing that tracks you across other apps or websites. The one third-party SDK it does contain is the crash and error reporter named in category 5 above; the data it receives is not used to track you and is not combined with data from other apps.

How long we keep data

We retain tier-list data for as long as it is necessary to provide the service. Currently, a free tier list is deleted automatically about 30 days after it was last shared. Each share sets the list's expiration timestamp to 30 days later, and a Firestore time-to-live (TTL) policy deletes the list after that time, usually within a day. Deleting a list also deletes its photos from Cloud Storage. Edit-history rows carry their own expiration timestamp and are deleted the same way, never later than the list they belong to. Tier lists saved by users who have purchased the premium upgrade are retained indefinitely and only deleted on request (see "Your choices and deletion requests" below). This retention policy may change over time, and this page will be updated to reflect any material change. Local data on your device persists until you delete the app or clear its data.

Sharing

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing. Two service providers process data on our behalf, and these are all of them:

Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Firestore and Cloud Storage security rules restrict reads and writes to authenticated clients. The source for those rules is public in the project repository (firestore.rules, storage.rules).

Children

Tiers With Peers is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your choices and deletion requests

Because the app doesn't require an account and all cloud data auto-deletes on a rolling basis, there is no profile to sign in to or export. If you'd like a specific tier list deleted sooner than the automatic TTL, email petergardiner25@gmail.com with the iMessage link (the URL contains the document ID) and we'll remove it. You can clear all local data by deleting the app.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For substantial changes we may also post a note in an app update's release notes.
